LANGUAGE TESTING

In order to skip any French, German, Russian, or Spanish classes, you must take the CAPE (language placement) test. You have to be an admitted student to USU in order to take the test; you have to have a USU "A" number. To purchase any lower division credits and have them placed on your transcript, you have to be an admitted active/enrolled student.
To take this test, you need to do the following:

Come to Main 204 or Call (435-797-1209) to sign up for an appointment to test.

Download the Language Testing form, fill it out, print it and take it to Registrars to pay $25 for the test.

Come to Main 204 for the test. Please bring the Language Testing form and the receipt with you.

When the test is done, you will know your score immediately and can determine what class you can take or how many credits you can buy.
The test can be taken only 3 times and you must pay $25 (no exceptions) each time you take the test.
The CAPE test will not only place you in a class, but also allows you to receive credit for your current knowledge of the language. See Language Credits.
Japanese Test: Contact our office in Main 204 at 797-1209 and make an appointment for a 2 1/2 hour listening and written test. The test will corrected by Atsuko Neely, Asian Languages Section Head and she will contact you and let you know which class you can register for.
Chinese Test: Contact our office in Main 204 at 797-1209 and make an appointment for a 1 1/2 hour listening and written test. The test will corrected by Ko-Yin Sung, Chinese Section Head and she will contact you and let you know which class you can register for.
